This time I played with MFT Hogs heaven stamp set and one of my favorite stencils from The Crafters Workshop. And although this is not my favorite combination, I used blues, reds and grays to match the colors of the MFT Challenge theme. The “Thank you” theme was inspired by Muse’s current challenge photo. In the end I think this card turned out quite cute, don’t you think? πŸ™‚

For Dad!

Hello crafty friends!

Hope you are having a nice day! I’m enjoying a day off work and I thought to make some cards…because that makes me happy! Today I got this Riveted Metal embossing folder through the post and I couldn’t wait to use it. So I’m going to share with you a card for father’s day using this awesome embossing folder that is not a new release item but I would say it’s an all time classic one!

Quick Instructions:

To create the background I embossed my panel using the Riveted Metal embossing folder. Then I inked the embossed areas using distress inks straight from the pad and colored the debossed areas using Prima watercolors. Then I let my panel aside to dry. In the meantime, I die cut some gears out of black cardstock and earthy tone scrap cardstock. Next I cut a stripe of black cardstock to create a wide banner for my panel and I die cut the word DAD out of it. Then I die cut the word DAD out of white cardstock as well, I used the same embossing folder I had used earlier to embossΒ  the letters and colored them with watercolors – using the same colors but slightly brighter tones than before. I adhered everything on my panel and inlaid the watercolored letters in the nagative space of the black panel. To make them pop even more I added Glossy Accents which created a 3D effect. (Unfortunately it doesn’t show in the photo but it shows well in real life.) I then stuck my panel on a card base and that completed my card!Hope you like it!

Supplies used:

  • Kraft Cardstock paper – white
  • The Works -Black craft card 200gsm
  • Tim Holtz – Distress Inks: Faded jeans, Shaded lilac, Hickory smoke, Black soot
  • Prima Confections Watercolors: The classics (used black, gray, brown, blue)
  • Sizzix – Tim Holtz – Riveted Metal Texture Fades
  • Avery Elle – Avery’s Alphas Die
  • Sizzix – Tim Holtz- Gearhead dies set
  • Ranger Glossy Accents
  • Sizzix Big Shot Machine

Sending hugs far away!

Hello my friends!

Today I was looking at Little Tangles’ challenge blog and I was trying to figure out how I can combine sooo many different colors together without making a rainbow type of card. And to be honest I was really challenged because 1) I don’t usually use as many colors together and 2) I couldn’t think of a super colorful design that wouldn’t make my squirrrels look out of place! And then I got that idea!Distress inks!!!

They are always a good idea when it comes to a colorful mess! So I grabbed all the warm pink-orange-purple colors to match the photo and smooshed them on my crafting area. Sprayed them with water and dragged and dabbed my cardstock in them a few times, drying the layers every time. I always get mesmerized by the hot mess when I use this technique. I find it fascinating how the colors mix and blend together. And in the process I learnt that spiced marmalade and seedless preserves give you a nice earthy color! This is what I used to color the nut-house (enhancing the orange abit)! When happy with the background I added some blue splatters to match the colors of the challenge.

Then I used the same colors and a bit of green to color my image, which I then I fussy cut. Next I die cut a wavy panel out of black cardstock and die cut the word HUGS out of it. I gold heat embossed the word sending and I stuck everything down…and at this part I decided that the black panel looked abit too simple!Great!… So I got half of my panel through my wood patterned embossing folder! And due to the wavy design …I did have to cut my panel into two, trim it abit and stick it back together !But I think in the end it worked well!Don’t you think?

Supplies used:

  • Kraft Cardstock paper – white
  • The Works -Black craft card 200gsm
  • Archival Ink Jet Black
  • Tim Holtz – Distress Inks: Seedless preserves, Picked Raspberry, Spun sugar, Spiced marmalade
